Welcome to my life

So I finally got around to updating the links to the side here--a bunch of the blogs aren't around anymore, so I figure it's not kosher to send you there.
Feel free to check out the link to the blog that I update more often than I do this one. (Sorry.)

Sorry for the absence lately--nothing's wrong; it's just that nothing's really going on these days. Work is good, life is good.
I'm reading the new James Patterson book, and I think he and I are going to have to break up soon. I'll still buy the Women's Murder Club books and probably the Alex Cross ones, but this one is just not grabbing my interest the way his usually do. I guess you can only release six books a year for so long before they just stop being good. Well, they never were good--but this one isn't fun.
For the people who don't read my Myspace blog, Jen is in the contestant's pool for Jeopardy. So at any time between today and next February, they could give her a call to be on the show. This is very cool. :) I'm very excited and proud and have told pretty much everyone I know (regardless of whether or not they know Jen).
I'm also excited that we have a release date for the last Harry Potter. I'm hoping to re-read all the books by then, but ideally I'd be able to finish 6 just in time to read 7, so we'll see. I'll have to try and figure out the best time to start (probably early July?).
And I'm excited for March, which brings new Laura Lippman and Jodi Picoult books.

I'm in the middle of reading this book, "Love is a Mix Tape." It's really good so far; I recommend it. It's like "High Fidelity," except this one is nonfiction.
I watched Jesus Camp yesterday; it was good. I don't agree with their religious views, but it's nice to see kids passionate about something besides video games. There was the obligatory Harry Potter bashing, which was annoying. In this one scene, a kid at the camp was like, "Yeah, my mom won't let me watch those movies, so I watch them at my dad's," and he laughs and every other kid at the table was just totally quiet. I was like, "Oooh, that kid's gonna get shunned at Jesus Camp." The other annoying thing is that the pastor at the camp, Becky, kept talking about the other religions and how they get to the kids early which is why she's doing this, but she kept referring to Islam as IsLAM. And she was like, "And we're the ones telling the truth!" And as it turns out, global warming is a total lie. Good to know, Jesus Camp! But anyway, yes, good to see kids passionate about something.
Now if we could just get the liberals as into voting as these kids will be, we could really have a great country.

So today--best thing ever. New season of 24 starts! Two episodes tonight and two more tomorrow. Between that and the Golden Globes, I should have plenty to do on my two days off this week. I'm going to try and watch 24 at work today and tomorrow, but I worry that there will be breaking news.
Plus I'm seeing The Hitcher Thursday with Brian.
The only thing is that only two of my friends watch 24. My people back in Salisbury are all reality TV junkies (I don't get it, but whatever) and so it's pretty much just Jeannine, Kenny and me.

I'm finally over my cold--huge sigh of relief. I woke up this morning and while I'm still a little sniffly, I think it's essentially gone. About time.
I read the new PostSecret book yesterday. It's amazing how much I love that site and the books. I know that we're all screwed up in our own ways (or, as Angelina Jolie said in my favorite movie, Playing By Heart, "We're all damaged goods") but it's good to see sometimes that I'm not the only one who doesn't really have it all together.
I started another blog. I'll keep posting here (and on Myspace) and will try to have original content on all three (except for my year-in-review lists--you're all stuck with those), so check it out if you want. khager.vox.com is the address.
I'm reading A Simple Plan now (did I say that before?) and I hope to get back to it later. I took a break to read the PostSecret book. I'm liking it so far but I definitely prefer The Ruins. I went to the bookstore yesterday and fell off the book wagon hardcore. I had a gift card with me so the damage was nowhere near as bad as it could've been. This is a dangerous time of year, too--between now and my birthday, all these books are coming out that I want to read. Maeve Binchy, Chris Bohjalian, Laura Lippman, Jodi Picoult, Sophie Kinsella and a bunch I'm forgetting all have books coming out that I want. And Julie Kenner has two coming out on my birthday! (Happy birthday to me--I'm asking the day off from work.)
Although to be honest, I think that I like so many authors that there's always a book to look forward to.
I also joined Facebook, so you can find me there, if you are so inclined. The cool thing with that (although I definitely prefer Myspace) is that a lot of the people I knew from elementary school are on there, so it's cool (but weird) to see people now that I haven't seen since they were 12 or so.

So I'm waiting for a grocery delivery (including, but not limited to, fruit, soup and cold medicine). It should be here before noon. Then I'm going to a 1pm showing of Dreamgirls. Then on to work. It's Sunday and there's football, so there's a decent chance we'll be going on late. I hate football.
I still have this cold I can't shake, but if I can just keep it together today, the next two days should be easier. Tomorrow is a standard 3:30-11:30 shift (it'll keep me fairly busy, thanks to video grabbing from four different shows) and Tuesday I work a split-shift and before I head into work, I have to go to Barnes & Noble to get the new PostSecret book. (There is a decent chance I'll also get some Pei Wei for lunch.)
I'm reading "A Simple Plan" by Scott Smith, which I picked up after reading (and loving) "The Ruins." It's good, but I liked "The Ruins" better.
I'm working on a plan to be debt-free by the end of the year. Hopefully entirely, but we'll see. I'm not deeply in debt or anything, but I have three credit cards. I know I can pay two of them off by June, and I'm hoping to pay the third off by the end of the year. And then no more credit cards; I think they may be the devil. (Or at least they are for people like me.) Plus, and yes, this is fiscally irresponsible, there are three things that I am behind on--that's what I will take care of first and then move on to the credit cards.
My incentive for this is (well, in addition to cutting down on the bills I have to pay each month) that, every time I remove a debt entirely, I can buy one big thing or two small things from my wish list (so about $30 or so).

For the record, I read 178 books this year (and, for those keeping track, that's two less than last year; I can only assume it's due to moving).
10) "Lost and Found" by Carolyn Parkhurst
9) "The Girls" by Lori Lansens
8) "The Other Side of the Story" by Marian Keyes
7) "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" by Marisha Pessl
